Cyclone Dana Approaches Odisha: Landfall Expected Soon, Authorities Implement Emergency Measures

Cyclone Dana News: Odisha and West Bengal are on high alert as Cyclone Dana approaches, with authorities working around the clock to ensure public safety. Officials have relocated hundreds of thousands to relief camps, closed schools, suspended flights, and cancelled over 400 trains as the states brace for the storm’s landfall.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Dana is set to make landfall in Odisha tonight between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra, bringing wind speeds of up to 120 kmph. Heavy rains and turbulent sea conditions are already affecting Odisha and parts of West Bengal, where large-scale evacuations have been carried out.

Key Developments:

1. Mass Evacuations: Over 3.5 lakh people in Odisha and 2.4 lakh in West Bengal were evacuated on Thursday. Relief camps have been set up in high-risk areas to provide shelter, food, and essential supplies.
2. High-Risk Zones: The Odisha government has declared Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore as high-risk areas, with possible wind gusts reaching up to 100 kmph in Mayurbhanj and surrounding districts.
3. Travel Disruptions: More than 400 trains across Odisha and West Bengal have been cancelled, along with flight suspensions at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports until Friday morning.

Government and Military Response: PM Modi has been in direct contact with Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi, inquiring about safety preparations, including the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF). Indian Navy teams are also ready for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts with food, water, medicines, and other emergency supplies.
5. State-Level Actions: In West Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee has coordinated evacuation operations and relief efforts, with over 850 camps activated. Meanwhile, Odisha has mobilized 4,756 relief centers to provide safe shelter for evacuees.
