“Bangladesh’s Bayraktar TB2 Drones Spotted Near Meghalaya Border, Security Forces Respond”

Meghalaya Police Report Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) from Bangladesh

In a significant security development, the Meghalaya Police reported the sighting of Bangladeshi Bayraktar TB2 drones near the Meghalaya border. The Indian authorities have promptly informed the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) to address the potential threat.

Drone Activity Detected in Sohra and Shella Areas

According to Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang, the UAVs were observed flying in areas close to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and Shella, regions that are part of the state’s border with Bangladesh. These drones, identified by their transponder code TB2R1071, were detected approximately 200 meters south of the zero line on the international boundary. The UAVs were reportedly operated from Tejgaon Airbase in Bangladesh.

BSF and IAF Alerted Over Security Situation

The matter has been promptly escalated by Meghalaya police to the BSF and IAF, who are monitoring the situation closely to assess any potential security threats posed by the drones.

BSF Detains Bangladesh Nationals and Prevents Smuggling

In another related incident, the BSF apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals in the Rattacherra area of the East Jaintia Hills district. The detained individuals were later handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh through a flag meeting as part of a goodwill gesture.

Additionally, BSF troops intercepted a smuggling attempt along the Sonata, Dawki, and Kasinda areas near the Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district. The authorities seized contraband goods and cattle valued at approximately Rs 9.83 lakh, which were being smuggled into Bangladesh.

This series of incidents highlights ongoing border security challenges, with authorities taking swift action to address threats and prevent illegal activities along the India-Bangladesh border.
