IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Northeast, Eastern India, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a prolonged period of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next seven days in the Northeast and adjoining eastern regions of India. Isolated areas in Arunachal Pradesh may experience extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 21 cm on August 8.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast States

Several northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are forecasted to receive intense rainfall on August 8 and 9. Assam and Meghalaya are also likely to witness additional heavy showers around August 12 and 13.

Hill States to Experience Scattered Heavy Showers

The hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive scattered heavy rainfall between August 7 and 13. Rainfall intensity is predicted to increase during the latter part of this period. A fresh round of heavy to very heavy rain will likely affect these states, as well as parts of Uttar Pradesh, starting August 10.

Other Regions with Rainfall Forecast

  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to see isolated heavy rainfall on August 7 and 11.

  • Bihar and Tamil Nadu may receive scattered heavy showers on August 8.

  • Central India and Rajasthan will experience subdued rainfall for the next 4 to 5 days.

Flood and Landslide Risks in Arunachal Pradesh

The weather situation in Arunachal Pradesh remains critical, with continuous heavy rain increasing the risk of flooding and landslides. The IMD has issued warnings for extremely heavy rainfall again on August 8 due to persistent wet conditions in the state.

Recent Rainfall Observations

In the past 24 hours, Tripura recorded extremely heavy rainfall of over 21 cm in isolated locations. Other regions like Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh saw heavy to very heavy rainfall between 7 to 20 cm. Several areas including eastern Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand, Telangana, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal received heavy showers ranging from 7 to 11 cm.

Weather Outlook for Delhi-NCR

Delhi-NCR will experience partly cloudy skies with chances of light rainfall or thundershowers during evenings and nights over the coming days.

  • On August 7, maximum temperatures are expected to be between 36°C and 38°C, 2 to 4 degrees above normal. Winds will blow from the southwest at 10–15 km/h during the day and from the west at night.

  • On August 8, light rain will continue, with daytime temperatures remaining steady. Minimum temperatures may drop slightly to 24–26°C, 1 to 3 degrees below normal. Winds will shift direction, blowing from the northwest during the day and the south at night with reduced speeds of 5–10 km/h.

  • On August 9, temperatures will dip further with daytime highs around 32–34°C and lows between 24–26°C, slightly below average.

  • On August 10, partly cloudy conditions and light showers are expected to continue. Daytime temperatures may rise marginally to 33–35°C. Winds will blow from the northeast and strengthen later in the day.
