Asim Munir Praises Trump for India-Pakistan Ceasefire, US President Claims Peace Role

US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for helping broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the military conflict earlier this year. He stated that Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, praised him for “saving millions of lives” by preventing the war from escalating.

Trump Highlights Pakistan’s Praise

During a meeting with military leaders in Quantico, Virginia, Trump said:

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, visited the White House along with Field Marshal Munir. He told a group, ‘This man saved millions of lives because he stopped the war.’ I felt very honoured and appreciated the way he said it. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was also present. It was the most beautiful thing.”

Trump also mentioned that his administration had helped resolve seven international conflicts in just nine months.

Intervention in India-Pakistan Conflict

Trump explained that he told Islamabad and New Delhi that he would act decisively if needed.

“I informed them, ‘Yes, I can intervene to stop this war.’ At first, they resisted, but our intervention prevented further escalation,” he said.

He added that several military aircraft were downed during the conflict but did not specify which country’s jets were involved.

Background of the Conflict

The tension started in May 2025 when India launched Operation Sindoor after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. Indian forces targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

A ceasefire was declared on May 10, 2025, following diplomatic discussions. While Trump has taken credit, India stated that the pause in fighting resulted from direct talks between military leaders from both nations.

Pakistan Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Although Pakistan initially denied Trump’s claim, it later nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination cited his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the India-Pakistan crisis.

Trump on Other Conflicts

Trump also highlighted that his administration helped resolve seven international conflicts, including efforts to mediate in the Gaza war, which he described as one of the largest challenges during his term.
