Five people, including a teenager, lost their lives when their Maruti car plunged into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. The accident occurred late at night as the group was returning from a wedding in Barot.
The car fell approximately 700 meters down a steep incline, and was discovered the following morning by a shepherd. Local villagers were immediately notified, and representatives from the panchayat contacted the police at the Tikkan station.
Efforts are currently underway, with the assistance of local residents, to retrieve the victims’ bodies. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh, Gangu, Karn, Sagar, and Ajay. The age range of the victims varies, with one being around 16 years old and the others between 25 to 30 years old.
The bodies will be taken to Jogindernagar Civil Hospital for postmortem before being handed over to the families. Mandi’s Superintendent of Police confirmed that a case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
