MoU Signed to Improve Learning Standards
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has partnered with UNESCO to enhance the quality of education in the state. On Wednesday, Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UNESCO officials Tim Curtis and Joyce Poan. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was also present at the event.
Key Focus Areas
Under this collaboration, UNESCO will support the state in upgrading its education system. The focus areas include:
- Curriculum Improvement – Modernizing study materials and teaching techniques.
- Teacher Training – Providing educators with advanced skills to improve learning.
- Assessment Reforms – Developing a better evaluation system aligned with global standards.
- Future-Ready Skills – Emphasizing creativity, problem-solving, and digital literacy.
Greening Education Initiative
A major highlight of the MoU is the Greening Education Initiative. This program will integrate environmental awareness into school curricula. Students will learn about climate change and sustainable development, preparing them for future challenges.
Holistic Development Through Sports
The agreement also promotes value-based education through sports. It aims to build leadership, teamwork, and discipline among students.
Transforming Schools with Smart Learning
Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the government is committed to turning schools into smart institutions. The goal is to improve digital infrastructure and ensure quality education, even in remote areas.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur emphasized that this partnership reflects the state’s dedication to world-class education. With UNESCO’s support, Himachal Pradesh aims to provide students with better learning opportunities and future-ready skills.
