Authorities Urge Caution Amid Adverse Weather
Heavy snowfall and rain across Himachal Pradesh have forced the closure of more than 1,250 roads, disrupting daily life across the hill state. Despite the challenges, tourists continue to visit snow-covered destinations, eager to experience the scenic winter landscapes.
Authorities have urged both locals and visitors to exercise caution, follow official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel, as adverse weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
Government Response and Road Clearance Efforts
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated that the government is working on a war footing to restore road connectivity.
“Two days ago, over 1,250 roads were closed. Snow blowers and JCB machines have been deployed across Himachal Pradesh, and efforts are underway to reopen them,” Singh said.
The minister highlighted that while the snowfall caused temporary inconvenience, it also provided much-needed relief after a long dry spell. He noted that the snowfall would benefit upcoming crops, especially in hilly areas, and help recharge water sources while maintaining soil moisture, which is crucial for orchards.
Support for Stranded Tourists
Authorities have been coordinating with district administrations, SPs, and DCs to assist stranded tourists. Singh emphasized that difficulties are natural in such weather, but efforts are being made to clear roads quickly and ensure maximum convenience for visitors.
The minister also welcomed tourists, noting their importance to the state’s economy:
“Tourists bring vibrancy and strengthen our economy. Himachal is Devbhoomi and believes in ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’. Visitors should travel responsibly and respect local culture, heritage, and religious sentiments.”
