Himachal Youth Arrested for Spying: Sensitive Data Linked to Pakistan Found on Phone

Police have arrested 20-year-old Abhishek Bhardwaj from Sukahar village in the Dehra sub-division on charges of espionage. Authorities discovered sensitive photos and videos on his phone, linking him to Pakistan’s spy network.

Police Kept Him Under Watch

After receiving a tip-off, a special surveillance team closely observed Abhishek for several days. On Wednesday, officers raided his home and took him into custody.

During questioning at Dehra Police Station, he revealed suspicious online activities. Police seized his mobile phone and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for a detailed check.

Case Registered Under National Security Law

Police filed a case under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This section addresses actions that threaten India’s unity and sovereignty.

According to Dehra SP Mayank Chaudhary, “We received credible input. Our team acted swiftly. We recovered objectionable content that could compromise national security.”

Connected to National Crackdown: Operation Sindoor

This is Himachal’s first case in a larger national crackdown under Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.

Since May 7, the crackdown has led to the arrest of seven people in Punjab and Haryana, all suspected of sharing intelligence with Pakistan.
