Kalyani Priyadarshan on Bollywood Offers: Good Scripts Come to Me Regardless of Language

Bollywood Debut Talks with Ranveer Singh’s ‘Pralay’

Actor Kalyani Priyadarshan, known for her work in Malayalam cinema, is reportedly in talks to make her Bollywood debut with Ranveer Singh-starrer Pralay. While these reports are yet to be confirmed, Kalyani has been in the spotlight after the success of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, one of last year’s highest-grossing Malayalam films and the first Indian female superhero movie.

Script-Driven Approach Over Language

Kalyani emphasizes that good stories have always found her, regardless of the language. “I don’t know how to explain this, but good scripts always come to me, whatever the language is. I’ve always said I’m very script-driven. If it’s a strong story, be it Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, or Malayalam, I want to be part of it. Obviously, I can’t shoot 10 films at once, but I choose what excites me creatively,” she explains.

She adds, “For me, Hindi films are appealing, but my focus is always on the script and storytelling. Language is never a barrier because emotion is universal. That’s why pan-Indian films resonate with audiences across languages. People understand feelings even if the words differ.”

Impact of Lokah’s Success on Hindi Offers

When asked whether Hindi offers increased after Lokah’s success, Kalyani said, “I can’t comment on whether it’s increased or decreased, but I’ve always had options. I prefer dedicating my full time to a film, which is what I did with Lokah. That means I can’t take every good script that comes my way.”

Update on the Lokah Superhero Universe

On the status of the Lokah film series, Kalyani shared, “We always knew the story arc and how the series would end. Last I heard, Dominic had started writing the next script and sketched the first few scenes. It’s amusing because almost every week, we check in with him asking what’s happening next.”

Kalyani’s approach reflects a passion for meaningful storytelling and a commitment to choosing projects with strong narratives, making her a rising star in Indian cinema across languages.
