Massive Security Operations Launched
After the Red Fort blast in Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have been placed on high alert. Police and security agencies have intensified searches and monitoring across border areas and interstate checkpoints, fearing that the attackers could try to escape through porous borders.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, confirmed that extensive security sweeps are underway. “We are monitoring all high-traffic public areas, including bus stands, railway stations, hotels, and religious sites. Every vehicle entering or leaving the city is being scanned,” Bhullar said.
Checkpoint Monitoring in Border Districts
In Gurdaspur district, Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya said vehicle checks and monitoring operations have been intensified at multiple nakas (checkpoints), including Gurdaspur city and Dinanagar, along with 32 other key points.
Teams are also patrolling markets, transport hubs, and highways leading toward Pathankot and Jammu & Kashmir, ensuring no suspicious movement goes unchecked. At the international border, police are working with the Border Security Force (BSF), including horse-mounted patrols, to prevent infiltration.
Enhanced Security in Himachal Pradesh
Chamba district SP Vijay Kumar Saklani confirmed that all entry points from Punjab, such as Tunnu Hatti, have been sealed. Continuous checks are being conducted along the Jammu & Kashmir border, including Sansari Nullah, with night patrolling teams actively intercepting any unusual activity.
In Kangra district, authorities have stepped up night patrols and highway monitoring. All local police stations have been alerted to verify unfamiliar movements or arrivals.
Pathankot Under Tight Vigil
Pathankot district, bordering Kathua (J&K), Chamba, and Kangra, has seen heightened security measures. Forces are employing sniffer dogs, handheld scanners, and drone surveillance to prevent potential infiltration.
An intelligence official said:
“Northern border districts become the first line of defense after any terror attack in the capital. Our goal is to seal all possible gaps as the investigation into the Red Fort blast continues.”
Authorities Urge Vigilance
Punjab and Himachal Pradesh remain on maximum alert, with authorities warning residents to stay cautious and report any suspicious activity. Security measures include increased patrols, monitoring of key checkpoints, and strict surveillance of high-traffic areas.
