Heavy Rain and Hailstorm Alert in Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh: IMD Issues Warning

IMD Weather Warning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Uttarakhand’s hill districts on May 19–20. Pilgrims on the Chardham Yatra are advised to stay cautious, check forecasts regularly, and call 112 in emergencies.

Himachal Pradesh Precautions
Himachal Pradesh faces hailstorms, thunderstorms, and gusty winds from May 19–21. An orange alert covers Una, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur on May 19, while a yellow alert warns of lightning and isolated snow in higher areas on May 18–19. Residents should avoid landslide‑prone routes and stay indoors during severe weather.

Transport & Power Disruptions
Heavy rain in Mandi district overnight caused roadblocks and power cuts. Emergency teams are on standby to respond to landslides and flash floods.

Larji Hydropower Project Restored
The 126 MW Larji Hydroelectric Power Project in Kullu—damaged in the July 2023 Beas River floods—has been fully restored and is now operational, thanks to swift government support.

Public Safety Measures
State authorities urge everyone to:

  • Monitor local forecasts
  • Avoid risky routes
  • Report emergencies via 112
  • Cooperate with rescue teams

Stay safe and follow official updates as the Himalayan states navigate these challenging weather conditions.
